Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his future after a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”
He stated, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
