Bills' Bay Day Gives Patriots Path to Top Spot - Best of NFL Week 10

The tenth week again delivered, with a major surprise for the Bills proving the 'any given Sunday' mantra that attracts so many fans into the National Football League
That result could have created things up for the Patriots to creep back into a top spot they formerly held, with a remaining games that gives them an advantage over their 8-2 competitors
Over in the NFC the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams had perfect results to arrange a monster clash in week 11, while our top performer is pursuing milestones as well as the Most Valuable Player award
The Breakdown - Just a Bad Day for the Bills?
Could it simply have been an emotional letdown from beating the Chiefs the previous week or a deeper issue? This remains the question for the Bills to answer
The Buffalo squad had won seven in a consecutive games against Miami but were outperformed from the start as the Dolphins ran out 30-13 winners in an eye-opening outcome - and performance
MVP Josh Allen only achieved the team's opening first down in the third period and first points in the final quarter - yes the Dolphins had 10 days to get ready but it was still a significant failure produced by one of the league's best offenses
Dolphins quarterback Tua passed for two scores but rusher De'Von Achane was the devastating difference, with 225 total yards and two touchdowns
Containing the league's best running game was crucial too, with James Cook and company recording just 86 yards, their lowest of the season and slightly more than half their 161.5 yard average
Then there were the three crucial turnovers, and the pair from Allen specifically. An pass caught by defense in the scoring area meaning a nine-minute possession yielded no points, and his final quarter fumble that the Dolphins turned into seven points just later
It was typical 'old Buffalo' as they shot themselves in the foot, getting into a hole on defense and Allen attempting to do too much to dig his team out of it - not the composed, controlled, balanced Bills we've seen this season
Miami have demonstrated a bit of everything this year so the jury's out on if this is the start of something, but for the Bills they'll need an instant response in a tough game against the Buccaneers next week as the Patriots are quietly moving into a comfortable advantage at the summit of the American Football Conference East
In Focus - New England Identify Route to Surprise Top Seed
Speaking of the Patriots, they're among three different 8-2 teams in the NFL, all AFC sides, but are they the best?
You can find flaws in the Patriots, Denver and the Colts actually for feasting on the weaker opponents, with only five of their combined twenty-four victories coming against teams with a positive record - and one of those was the Indianapolis defeating the Denver
Denver defeated the champion Eagles in Philly and are kings of the fourth-quarter while Indianapolis can ride Taylor, but the New England adding Sunday's win in Tampa Bay to their prime time success in Buffalo seems like a declaration
Their pair of losses occurred in new head coach Vrabel's first three contests, with seven consecutive wins, similar to Denver, since then - but defeating Mayfield after the Buccaneers had a week off to prepare was significant
Maye's Most Valuable Player credentials continue to be discussed, and he definitely earns credit for bravery after taking some savage hits in Tampa but hanging in there to guide his side to success
The defense is reliable and first-year running back TreVeyon Henderson exploded on Sunday with 147 yards and two exhilerating scores of fifty-five and sixty-nine yards - becoming just the fifth runner to break 22 miles per hour this season on his initial touchdown
Although you can debate who 'the top team' is statistically, the Patriots should be favourites to finish with the top record thanks to their schedule - which includes just one game against a successful opponent, although a significant contest against the Bills
Visiting Baltimore is challenging too, but the Broncos have it even tougher in the AFC West division with the Kansas City to play twice, the Los Angeles Chargers (who could also challenge for top seed but face the identical challenge) and also the Green Bay on the schedule
The Colts also play the Kansas City, and have the Seattle, 49ers and two matchups with the five and four Jacksonville to contend with. There is a considerable distance to travel but the opportunity is open for a surprise top seed in the American Football Conference
Next Week - Los Angeles and Seattle Set for Week 11 Clash
Both squads with solid claims to be superior to all of the three eight and two sides are NFC West opponents the Seattle and Rams, who both scored forty points to reach 7-2 before the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster game between the two in LA
Both have secured four victories in a row, have signal callers in Stafford and Sam Darnold performing at an elite level (although Darnold had ball security problems on Sunday) with top receivers, and defensive units giving up fewer than twenty points a contest
Each could realistically be undefeated as too - particularly the Los Angeles as their pair of losses came in overtime against the San Francisco and then that agonising loss in Philly when they had a game-winning field goal with the last kick blocked and run back by the Eagles for a score
The Seahawks were also defeated to the 49ers, with a last-minute score in the opening week, before falling to the last kick of the contest against the Tampa Bay - so they are genuinely among the top teams in the NFL
The next matchup on Sunday could be the most exciting of the season so far
Player of the Week - Taylor
Jonathan Taylor might be on for a historic year after his incredible display in Germany - running for 244 rushing yards, scoring three scores and adding an additional forty-two {receiving yards
