Followers Urge Custody of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the actress are demanding that a man who breached a barrier and touched the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared clip shows the Australian man shoving aside camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the cast made its way down a event pathway accompanied by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though official papers indicated that he was set to appear on the following morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram profile contains clips of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last year.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is clearly a legal violation," stated an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user questioned.
Fans Voice Worry Over Grande's Well-being
Several followers accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said another comment on Instagram.
A number of attendees also faulted guards at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande appeared shocked when she was approached by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Numerous of fans had assembled in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore venue, including several who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it began.
The film, to be launched on November 21, is the second of a dual version of the popular Broadway and West End show Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected friendship between two contrasting witches.
The show itself is a derivative of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and received 10 award recognitions, securing a pair for best costume and artistic direction.
