Parker & Fabio Wardley Prepared for High-Stakes Rumble with Opportunity at Oleksandr Usyk on the Horizon
Boxing is in a real slump this period, with few major fights and markedly reduced compelling bouts than normal. The possibility of a high-stakes and fascinating heavyweight contest between Joseph Parker and Wardley at the iconic O2 Arena brings a measure of relief to the challenged industry. He always gets up but Wardley punches with greater force than any fighter he's fought – with the omission of Wilder who seemed a shadow of a power puncher when Parker achieved a one-sided points victory in the end of 2023.
Wardley, a former white-collar slugger, who only took up boxing when he was 20, had zero amateur background and has always had to overcome questions regarding his technical limitations. But he is similarly close to a world title challenge.
“This is the biggest bout, right now, in the heavyweight division. These two guys have accepted the challenge when neither of them was required to take this bout. Joe Parker is the WBO interim champion and they have already ordered Usyk to fight him, but he was sidelined. Parker is eager to compete regardless.
“Wardley is also in a fantastic position and he only had to wait for his chance. He said ‘No.’ He chose to box – and against Parker because it provides him a shot to skip the line.”

Parker, who turns 34 in January, said: “This is do or die. I am not thinking about losing. I respect my opponent and his achievements and his preparation for this fight. But I am on a higher plane and I am planning to demonstrate it on the day of the bout.”
The Perspective of Wardley
Wardley turns 31 in December, and he said: “It is a massive night for the both of us. It is clearly the most significant bout of my boxing journey and the biggest fight of my life. But every time I step up I elevate my performance. Saturday will be no exception. The gap between where Joe is and what others believe about me has been a common theme during my entire career.
“He has been going around the block for a long time, with a numerous contests on his resume. Certainly not is he an aged fighter but he has been in the boxing world for a while and had numerous grueling matches. I’ve been in a few wars myself and I understand they take a toll. He has been in a far greater number of those than me.”

But the lingering doubt persists that Parker will be too seasoned, and too skilled, for Wardley. He should win a bruising battle with the belief that he is next in line for Usyk – currently the top heavyweight globally by a significant margin.
