The Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the World Series in the 2017 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial World Series after 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the ALCS.

Down by two runs, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming championship.

"I'm thrilled for everyone here, our city, the nation," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "It's truly an amazing experience."

Springer has now connected for 23 total October home runs, making him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another person in the world that I'd choose in that moment other than him with his playoff prowess," noted Schneider.

The Mariners, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the sole team never to appear in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "certainly that it's painful" after his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but applauded their work this season.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of the series," he continued.

The Blue Jays claimed the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
