The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
