The Three Lions to Begin the European Championship 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground

The English squad will commence their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they secure the anticipated qualification for a competition taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic.

Manchester City’s home ground has not staged an English men’s match since May 2016, when Turkey were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to welcome the Three Lions for their first match on June 10, 2028.

England are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, if they top Group B, their last-16 tie would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean starting the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.

Competition Kickoff and Demonstration

The event was inaugurated at an ceremony in a London landmark on Wednesday night. Key representatives from European football’s governing body and the organizing bodies were barracked as they arrived the location by about 50 activists, who called for Israel’s national side to be expelled from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Banners were held up with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be held at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a fixture that will involve the Dragons if they secure a place.

The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the final, which will be played on a Sunday in July 2028 with a start time at late afternoon.

It is anticipated that an earlier start, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will cater to households and help connect with a more diverse set of fans.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are due to play their initial fixture at the Aviva Stadium and Scotland would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will take part in the preliminary stage; two automatic spots will be set aside for any that do not reach the tournament through the qualification path.

Stadiums and Knockout Stage

The Birmingham venue and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium round out the nine tournament locations. All will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight played at each country’s national stadium.

The draw for the qualifiers will be staged in Belfast, which was dropped as a venue city last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.

Tournament Vision

“This will be a tournament for the followers and a celebration of everything we value about the sport – its fervor and ability to bring people together.”

Over 3 million tickets, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are projected to be released to fans.
