This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, donated by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
